I'm not really a sports fan...
But I was really hoping this match would go the other way.
I studied for two semesters in Spain and they're nice, hospitable and have no real clue about political correctness. It's going to sound weird, but they are like that, with no real malicious intentions. Spain is a bit like a big rural village with few foreigners.
For example, if I had seen French players do this, I would be pissed off.
They're bumpkins and not very cosmopolitan. They haven't learned yet to keep their mouth shut about certain topics like people in other countries. I've heard research group leaders telling conspiracy theories about Jews controlling Hollywood. In Germany that kind of topic is an absolute social taboo. You won't often hear a normal person in the States, especially not someone with an advanced academic degree, talk like this either. It's certainly crap, but I don't think it has the same meaning if you were hearing that in Hungary.
Like I said, French or Italians, they would have pissed me off.

And now now this comes out?
ReplyDeleteI don't know. Between this and the racist slurs at games... I don't think it's about "political correctness".
